Windows 10: Everything You Would Want To Know About The Taskbar. Part 1

Windows 10 Taskbar

Part 1

The windows taskbar, everyone knows and sees it. They all by now probably use it, but in this article were going to try and cover some things you may not know about the Taskbar.

Without further ado, let’s check some things out.

You can get rid of the Search box.

If you right-click in a blank location, then click search, there will be an option to hide the search box. You can still search with it missing, just open the start menu and begin typing. This will search your computer.

There is a quick key to select the icons on the taskbar. Windows key + T.

If you’re a keyboard hero, you can use Windows + T to select the first item on the taskbar and then you can use the arrows and enter to select an item. But there is a faster way I will show later.

If you right-click an item in the taskbar, it will give you more options.

This one is handy mainly for documents; you will be able to see the most recent documents you have been working on.

If you hit the windows key and the number for the application you want to open. It will open immediately.

This one is nice, it works for up to the number 10, but in order left to right of the apps on the taskbar, just hit the windows key and the number and it will open the app.

You can hide all windows with a quick key: windows + D

If you want to close all windows that are open quickly, press this combo. Plus, if you redo it, it will open them all back up again.

You can drag the Taskbar to any side of your screen.

If you click and drag to the edge of your screen, it will go to that side.

The Items on the system tray can be moved onto the taskbar for easy viewing.

Just open the system tray and then drag the icon to the left of the time and date.

If you right-click the taskbar there are more options. An overview of what they do:

a.       Toolbars: allows you to add new toolbars to your taskbar.

                                                               i.      Address bar: allows you to have an address bar to the taskbar. And it will save the addresses that you have typed.

ii.      Links: allows you to add links to the taskbar. This isn’t limited to address, you can drag an application icon onto the links icon and it will add it to the list.

iii.      Desktop: Desktop will show you everything that is on your desktop, this allows you to work without minimizing your screen.

b.       Search: allows you to customize how the search function shows.

                                                               i.      Hidden: will hide the search box altogether. You can still search just by opening the start menu and typing.

ii.      Show search icon, will show just the magnifying glass instead of the whole bar.

iii.      Show Search box: this will show the whole search box for you.

c.       Show Cortana Button: Shows the Cortana button on the taskbar.

d.       Show Task View Button: Shows the Task View button.

e.       Show People on the taskbar: shows the people application on the taskbar.

f.        Show Windows Ink Workspace Icon: a nice tool for taking a quick screenshot. What I use it for at least.

g.       Show Touch Keyboard Icon: show the touchscreen keyboard icon.

h.       Cascade Windows: this will cascade every window that is open.

i.         Show Windows stacked: this will stack every window that you have.

j.         Show the Desktop: will minimize all windows.

k.       Task Manager: will open the task manager. More on this tool later.

l.         Lock all taskbars: this will make the taskbar not being able to be moved.

m.     Taskbar Settings: will open all the taskbar settings.

This will wrap up part 1 of the Taskbar, we will cover all the settings you can change in the taskbar settings next week.

That is welcome back as this is part 2 of the series.   If you missed the last part, you can find part 1 here: Windows 10 Theme Part 1 We left off on how to customize sounds in the last article, so in this article, we are going to start with mouse point options. So go ahead and open up the themes section of your settings and you should see the mouse point options as pictured below: You will be prompted with a new window like below: You will have multiple sections to this window much like the sound customizations. You have at the top schemes. This is a drop list of all the prebuilt schemes that windows have prebuilt. You can go through each scheme and you will have multiple options for different mouse selections. So if you go through the schemes, some will make your default mouse point black and large, some of them will make your pointer white and large. Try them out by selecting the scheme and selecting apply to see how it l
