Windows 10: Bring Back Libraries

In Windows 7, Microsoft introduced libraries, they were a way you could link together multiple locations, even shared folders, to one folder. It was a good idea, but they were confusing to understand so a lot of people didn’t use them. So they made them an add on to users.

If you liked Libraries, they are still there.  I will show you how to enable them again. Also, if you’re unsure of what Libraries are, I will explain how to use them.

Without further ado, let’s get started.

1    1. Open your file explorer.

2    2.  Click on the View tab of the Ribbon.

      3. Then on the far right, there will be options, you will want to select it.

4    4. Then select the change folder and search options.

5    5. A new Windows will open, the folder options.

6    6.You also want to select the view tab when you’re in there.

7    7. Under the advanced settings, you will find show libraries in the list, you want to check that box.

With that enabled, you will then be able to see the Libraries menu on the left-hand side of File Explorer.

Now we have it enabled, what do we do with it? What makes it cool?

How to use Libraries in Windows 10

Now that you have Libraries enabled, what do you do with it? What are the benefits?

There are many benefits to using libraries. Let’s say you have a laptop, limited storage but have storage shares at home. Once connected you can link them folders to your library. Then instant access to all your files.

This can be can go the other way also, maybe you have files on your laptop and want to share them with your desktop, you can link the library and you will then have access to that folder under one library.

It’s a way to keep everything organized in one location.

Let’s add a new library and add a network location to it.

1.  Right-click libraries, you will get a mini menu.
2. Click new, then Library.
3. You will then be able to name your library, I just named mine, new library.

Congrats, you just create a new library, but a library is useless without a folder linked to it. Let’s do a little bit more work on the library.

Let’s edit it to our liking.

1     1. Right-click the new library you created and then select properties.

2     2.You will be prompted to with a new window, now you can select add.
 3. This will allow you to add a new folders.

Now you can add as many locations as you would like. That’s the beauty of Libraries. One spot for multiple locations.

I hope this was helpful and feel free to explorer further!

Windows 10 How To Create A Zipped Folder

If you’re here, you’re probably looking for a guide on how to Create a Zipped folder. I’m assuming at this point you know what is and just want to compress your files. So let's get started. 1.  Right-Click in the location you want to create a Zipped folder. 2. Click new, then select Compressed Zipped folder. 3. This will create a zipped folder in that location, then give the folder a name. Within the zipped folder, you can drag in whole folders or just files and they will then be compressed.   You can copy and paste folders in and out of the folder, and they will be compressed and decompressed as it is put in and taken out. In this example, we have a folder with a text file with some text. The size of the file in the none compressed folder: The size of the file now smaller in the compressed folder: You can also take a folder that isn’t compressed and make it compressed. Say you have a project with many folders and files and you’re done with it. You can send it to a zipped folde

You can modify these sounds to whatever sounds you would like.    You will see there is a drop-down menu that says windows defaults unless you have already modified your sound in the past, which if you’re reading this, chances are you haven’t. By default, you can only choose no sound or the windows default sounds.  If you modify the sounds, which we will get to, you have the option to save the sound scheme as a different name. That is the save as button.  Then of course you have the delete option, to

Windows 10 Themes Part 2

Hey and welcome back to my tutorial on Windows 10 themes. That is welcome back as this is part 2 of the series.   If you missed the last part, you can find part 1 here: Windows 10 Theme Part 1 We left off on how to customize sounds in the last article, so in this article, we are going to start with mouse point options. So go ahead and open up the themes section of your settings and you should see the mouse point options as pictured below: You will be prompted with a new window like below: You will have multiple sections to this window much like the sound customizations. You have at the top schemes. This is a drop list of all the prebuilt schemes that windows have prebuilt. You can go through each scheme and you will have multiple options for different mouse selections. So if you go through the schemes, some will make your default mouse point black and large, some of them will make your pointer white and large. Try them out by selecting the scheme and selecting apply to see how it l
