Windows 10: What is an ISO file?

Remember in the not too distant past, we used to always be using disks for stuff. If wanted to play a game, chances are you ran off to GameStop and bought a game that came with a disk. You went home and put it in the computer and installed the game.

Well, we all know that is a thing of the past now. A lot of computers don’t even come with a disk drive anymore because they’re becoming less and less useful.

But you’re looking for what an ISO file is right? Well, it’s a virtual disk, it’s a disk that is virtual and is on your computer. Look at this ISO file that is on my computer:

The ISO image looks like a disk. That’s because it is a disk that is virtualized on your computer. The one in the image just happens to be a Windows 10 installation disk. I use it all the time for repairs.

What Can You Do With An ISO File?

There are only a couple of things you can do with an ISO file.

You can double click it to open its content. It will have all the files and folders on there for whatever installation you need.

You can make a physical disk with an iso file if you happen to have a DVD burner, which is becoming less and less common nowadays. Then you can use it like any other disk that you have used before.

Creating a Disk With An ISO File

If you would like a physical copy of the iso file so you can carry the disk image with you. You simply would burn the image to a DVD, if you even have a DVD burner any longer.

1.       Right-click the ISO file and select Burn disc image

2.     Make sure you got a blank DVD in your disk drive and select your disc drive from the drop-down menu.

3.      Then select burn and wait for the disc image to finish creating the disc.

Once that is complete, you then have a physical disc you then can use and carry with you.

Hopefully, this was helpful for you to figure out what ISO File is and are on your way to working with these files in the future.

Hey and welcome back to my tutorial on Windows 10 themes. That is welcome back as this is part 2 of the series.   If you missed the last part, you can find part 1 here: Windows 10 Theme Part 1 We left off on how to customize sounds in the last article, so in this article, we are going to start with mouse point options. So go ahead and open up the themes section of your settings and you should see the mouse point options as pictured below: You will be prompted with a new window like below: You will have multiple sections to this window much like the sound customizations. You have at the top schemes. This is a drop list of all the prebuilt schemes that windows have prebuilt.
