Windows 10: One Drive

One Drive

What is one drive?

One drive is a way to sync all your files with all your devices. If you have a file in the one drive, if you go to say your laptop and you have one drive on there, the file will be available to you on that laptop also.

It does not stop there either, there is one drive on Android, Mac, and the iPhone. It is a convenient way to access your files from anywhere.

If for some reason something were to happen to your computer or if you are stuck without a computer and have to use someone else’s computer, you can still get access to your one drive files through their web site.

It is a great feature to have, but just be sure your password is safe as it is everywhere, which means other people are going to try to maybe access it when they’re not supposed to. Use two-factor authentications if possible. Or use the built-in vault, which we will get to later in this blog post.

What if I’m offline?

Even if you are offline, you can still access the files you have in one drive on your PC. One Drive saves your files locally (or on your pc) and offline, so even if you don’t have an internet connection, you will still be able to access your files offline.

Onedrive.com

You can access your files from another device by going to onedrive.com. When you sign into the site you will then have access to all your files from that location. So even if you’re not on your computer you can access all your files from someone else’s pc.

Pretty convenient if you ask me!

Sharing files with one drive

What if you’re working on a project with someone and they come in halfway through the project you might already be working on? Or maybe you just started and want to share a file with another person.

You can do this with one drive! This is great for sharing large files also because you simply can send them an email that gives them access to the file and they can download this file from one drive and be able to retrieve them.

What is the Personal Vault?

While checking things out for yourself you might have come across the personal vault. This vault is to store your important files. Even if someone were to get access to your One Drive, they still will not have access to your personal vault. And your personal vault will send a text message to you to verify it is you. That is handy because you will get a notice if this drive is being accessed.

What is Fetch?

Fetch is a feature of One drive that allows you to almost reverse what One drive does. Let’s say that you have a file that is in a folder that One drive doesn’t copy. If you set up fetch, you can access all the files on your computer from One Drives web site.

I keep this off as I do not like the idea of access to my computer from the internet. But that is my personal preference.

One Drive is a great feature

All in all, one drive is a great new feature that was introduced in Windows 8 but not fully adopted until Windows 10.

At first, I didn’t like it, as much as anything else that is new, but now that I have adopted it and use it, it is a nice feature and saved me in jams plenty of times and glad it has been added to this operating system.

So let's get started. 1.  Right-Click in the location you want to create a Zipped folder. 2. Click new, then select Compressed Zipped folder. 3. This will create a zipped folder in that location, then give the folder a name. Within the zipped folder, you can drag in whole folders or just files and they will then be compressed.   You can copy and paste folders in and out of the folder, and they will be compressed and decompressed as it is put in and taken out. In this example, we have a folder with a text file with some text. Say you have a project with many folders and files and you’re done with it. You can send it to a zipped folde

So let’s get started. 1.  Right-click on the desktop and click personalize. 2.    Then select Themes on the left. 3.    Then there will be an option for sounds. 4.    Once you click on sounds you will be greeted with a new window like below: 5. You will be greeted with all the sounds your computer makes. You can modify these sounds to whatever sounds you would like.    You will see there is a drop-down menu that says windows defaults unless you have already modified your sound in the past, which if you’re reading this, chances are you haven’t. By default, you can only choose no sound or the windows default sounds.  If you modify the sounds, which we will get to, you have the option to save the sound scheme as a different name. That is the save as button.  Then of course you have the delete option, to

Windows 10 Themes Part 2

Hey and welcome back to my tutorial on Windows 10 themes. That is welcome back as this is part 2 of the series.   If you missed the last part, you can find part 1 here: Windows 10 Theme Part 1 We left off on how to customize sounds in the last article, so in this article, we are going to start with mouse point options. So go ahead and open up the themes section of your settings and you should see the mouse point options as pictured below: You will be prompted with a new window like below: You will have multiple sections to this window much like the sound customizations. You have at the top schemes. This is a drop list of all the prebuilt schemes that windows have prebuilt. You can go through each scheme and you will have multiple options for different mouse selections. So if you go through the schemes, some will make your default mouse point black and large, some of them will make your pointer white and large. Try them out by selecting the scheme and selecting apply to see how it l
