A Windows 10 Introduction

Windows 10 introduction

Windows 10, the successor to Windows 8, and most people are glad that it’s gone. Although Windows 8 did have it’s features that were handy, but most people got too irritated to get that far.

I remember I got Windows 8 at release and there was a big learning curve that is for sure. But they did add a lot of cool features with it. And with some tweaking, I did get it set up to work nicely.

Windows 10 brought all the good features from Windows 8 and makes the parts that sucked work much better. I really enjoy windows 10 and despite some technical glitches that seem to pop up from time to time, I feel like it is a great operating system.

Although when announced, they said this would be the final operating system. That this would just be updated with patches and they would continue to fix bugs, I heard rumors Windows 11 being built, and I hope it is even better.

But let’s find out what Windows 10 already brings to the table compared to their older operating system:

·         The Start Menu. The start menu got a pretty good update, it’s flashier and it is easier to find the things you need. It takes the good of Windows 8 and takes away the bad. It works pretty much the same as the old, but with a couple of new features.

·         All apps work alike. From the desktop to a laptop, to a phone. All apps function and look the same. If the developers take advantage of it that is.

·         Cortana. What kind of modern operating system would it be if you didn’t have some type of voice assistants? Your phone has it, why can’t your desktop or laptop?

·         The Edge Browser. The old Internet Explorer is now going towards the recycle bin(although it is still here, just not easily found).

The all-new Edge browser is replacing Internet Explorer. With many new features that are available and more space to work with.

·         Task View. With one click of a button, you can see all the open windows on your desktop at once.

·         Virtual Screens. Don’t have multiple monitors and want a way to keep everything organized on one screen? Why not set up virtual screens!?
With virtual screens, you can have many desktops set up that you can switch between.

·         New Settings app. There is a new place that holds all your settings and looks much nicer than the old school control panel. Although the control panel is still there for a little tweaking.

·         Action Center. This is a notification tray that pops on the bottom right of your screen to let you know if something new is happening, much like your phone does.

·         Snap four apps at once. Only have one screen and sick of flipping between all the screens at once. Split your screen into four separate work areas.

·         Windows Hello(face or fingerprint login). I want to feel like a secret agent and be more secure. As long as you have a webcam or a fingerprint scanner, you can use it to log in!
It even has a retina scanner for your eyes.

·         Continuum(Tablet Mode). If you have a convertible laptop, it can detect when you remove the keyboard and it converts into tablet mode so you can use an on-screen keyboard.
·         Xbox Streaming: Do you have a girlfriend that is always hogging the tv or maybe kids that need to watch their shows?

Well, you can stream games from the console to your computer.

·         Rejiggered File Explorer. The basic windows explorer has been revamped with a bigger ribbon so it is easier to find settings that you’re looking for.

·         A whole lot of misc. stuff. There is been a lot of new features added to certain programs to enhance the experience.

As you can see, there is a lot of stuff that has been added that you may have not been aware of. But if you skipped Windows 8, there are some of the cool features that are from Windows 8, that are in Windows 10 yet:

·         Smartphone features. Many features that are smartphone-like, like showing the battery life on the Lock screen and the time. Plus an app store that models after phone themselves, so you have one place to find the cool stuff you want.

·         Touchscreen friendly. Touchscreens are everywhere now, and Windows needs to be able to work with them too.

·         It’s cloudy. You can save all your settings and feature to the cloud, so if you go to your friend’s house and sign in, it looks just like your desktop.

·         It comes with free antivirus. When I work with people, I don’t understand why they keep buying antivirus, as Windows 10 comes with a built-in antivirus.

·         File History. Did you accidentally delete a file you needed and want it back? If you set up file history, you can go back in time and get it back.

·         BitLocker to Go. Have something important that you need to transport on a flash drive. You can now encrypt the drive with a password so if you lose it or get it stolen, the information on the drive is safe.

·         Windows to Go(available only on Enterprise version). This one is really cool, and I wish I can get my hands on it.

You can pretty much put your computer on a flash drive and use it anywhere with another Windows 10 pc.

·         Narrator. This was an old feature that no one ever really used. But has gotten way better and can describe almost anything on the screen.

·         Storage Spaces. You can use multiple hard drives and make the computer think it is only one allowing for better performance.

·         New apps. There is a bunch of new apps that come with the operating system.

·         One Drive integration. You can save to one drive or your computer. Or both.

·         Miracast. If you have a compatible device, you can cast what you're doing on your laptop or desktop to any screen.

·         Many overhauls. Many different features were added to many different things and I will try to go over all of them with you.
As you can see, you man not have realized it, but there was a lot of stuff added to this operating system.Much more if you came from Windows 7, so it can be hard to know about all of them.

In this blog, I'm going to try and go over all the cool stuff in this operating system, so you can learn and I can learn too! If you follow me, you will be an expert on this system and be ready for what is to come!

Windows 10 Themes Part 2

Hey and welcome back to my tutorial on Windows 10 themes. That is welcome back as this is part 2 of the series.   If you missed the last part, you can find part 1 here: Windows 10 Theme Part 1 We left off on how to customize sounds in the last article, so in this article, we are going to start with mouse point options. So go ahead and open up the themes section of your settings and you should see the mouse point options as pictured below: You will be prompted with a new window like below: You will have multiple sections to this window much like the sound customizations. You have at the top schemes. This is a drop list of all the prebuilt schemes that windows have prebuilt. You can go through each scheme and you will have multiple options for different mouse selections. So if you go through the schemes, some will make your default mouse point black and large, some of them will make your pointer white and large.
