The Recycle Bin, at one point in time it may save your life. It just sits there, and you rarely have to use it, you may even go as far as emptying it. But that one time you delete a 40-page document and have the chance to recover the file is the day that you never knew you loved it.
The Recycle bin is your data’s last lifeline, it saves all files you delete up to a certain point that you specify, you can even turn off the recycle bin, but why would you get rid of your safety net? In this article, we will show you have to work with the recycle bin, let’s get started,
Recover a file from the recycle bin:
If you have accidentally deleted a file you didn’t mean to delete, you can find it in the Recycle Bin and restore the file to its original location intact. How to restore your file:
Open the Recycle Bin and find your file, in this case, I’m restoring the Action Heros file:
Right-click your file and click restore like below:
Once you do this, it restores your file to its original location.
Note: external drives such as flash drives do not work with the recycle bin, so be careful when working with files in these drives.
Emptying the Recycle Bin:
If you know there isn’t a file you want to recover and you want more space on your drive, you can empty your recycle bin and clear it out.
Select the Recycle Bin icon and select empty recycle bin.
This will clear out the recycle bin and it will then be emptied and all the files will be gone forever.
Changing Recycle Bin Settings:
If you want to change the setting of the Recycle Bin, you can modify how it behaves a bit.
Right-click the icon and select properties like below:
Under setting for the selected location, you can change the size of the folder before the recycle bin starts deleting files; This is in Megabytes, every 1024 Megabytes is a Gigabyte.
Also, you have the option for Don’t move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted. This will make the Recycle bin be pretty much useless, not recommend to do this unless you have a specific reason or you know you will never accidentally delete a file you want.
Display delete confirmation dialog options allows you to turn off the dialog when you try to empty the recycle bin.
That’s about everything you would need to know about the recycle bin. I hope this was helpful!
